We, as a school, have taken advantage of the US Presidential election by creating a schoolwide election project.  Because of the content of the US election, we felt it best to make our election more “home based.”   Every grade level has been given a particular area to research and create projects.  (K & 1sthave researched the importance of voting and created signs and ballots/ 2nd & 3rd have researched the issues, surveyed students, and looked at the electoral college/ 4th grade has researched issues and the techniques used in campaigning/ 5th grade has researched issues and the process of candidate selection.)

With this said, please know that the students will be in charge of campaigning.  Now that the candidates have been selected, 4th grade will be talking with Harley and Caeden to work up products and techniques for the boys’ campaigns.

We are going to have a schoolwide assembly in the gym next Tuesday, 11/8, at 8:00 AM.  Both boys will give a speech to all students.  After the speeches, classes (or states as we are calling themJ) will be called to the lunchroom to “vote.”  During the day I will be updating the results of the election on the intercom as votes are tallied.   We are also looking at popular vote and the electoral college vote.  The President of Snow Rogers will be declared at the end of the day.

The students have learned so much through this schoolwide project.  It will be interesting to see how the campaigning goes during this week and next.  I have seen that students can do so much more when given the opportunity to think and be creative.
